From April 3rd to 6th, the city of Ancona became the beating heart of youth empowerment and international cooperation as it hosted the Erasmus Generation Meeting (EGM) 2025 — the largest European conference dedicated to the internationalization of higher education, entirely organized by volunteers of the Erasmus Student Network (ESN). With over 1,200 participants from all across Europe and beyond, the event served as a vibrant platform for learning, sharing, and inspiring action within the ESN community.
EGM is not just a conference; it’s the moment when the Erasmus Generation comes together to exchange ideas, showcase projects, and reflect on their impact — locally and globally. This year’s edition revolved around the theme "Empowering Youth as Changemakers of Society," emphasizing the power of young people to lead positive transformation through civic engagement and volunteering. Guided by the motto "Guiding the Waves of Change," the event highlighted how the Erasmus Generation can shape ongoing social, cultural, and environmental transitions.
Representing ESN Udine, a group of volunteers proudly took part in the experience, joining sessions, plenaries, and networking opportunities throughout the four-day event. Their participation brought back valuable insights, fresh ideas, and renewed motivation to apply locally.
EGM 2025 kicked off with the colorful Flag Parade through the streets of Ancona — a moment of celebration, unity, and cultural pride. This led into the Opening Ceremony at Teatro delle Muse, where local traditions and international voices came together in a powerful symbol of shared identity.
Over the following days, attendees could choose from more than 150 sessions, ranging from skills development and university cooperation to volunteering best practices and career paths in EU institutions. One of the highlights was the EXPO fair, where each ESN section presented its local activities and academic partnerships, creating a marketplace of cultures and innovation.
The International Dinner brought delegates together over traditional dishes from their home countries — a perfect blend of food, fun, and friendship. The event continued with thought-provoking talks, including plenaries on Erasmus Destinations and the impact of peer support among students, as well as interactive exhibitions like the Poster Gallery. The best projects and initiatives were celebrated during the ESN Awards, recognizing excellence in education, inclusion, sustainability, and social impact.
To close the weekend, participants gathered one last time for the elegant Gala Night, marking the end of an intense but unforgettable experience.
For the volunteers of ESN Udine, attending EGM 2025 was more than just a trip — it was a chance to grow, to connect with others who share the same mission, and to return home with new energy and inspiration. As we continue our work in Friuli Venezia Giulia, we do so knowing we’re part of something much bigger: a generation ready to lead the change.
